What reality TV show title do you think best fits for MoTech?
“Say Yes to the Stress.” But it’s a productive and creative kind of stress that drives you and results in high-quality work. I’ll totally understand if you vote me off the island.
Do you collect anything?
I have a collection of Pez dispensers that total more than 1,200 at this point. I started collecting them for my son when he was two years old. Now he’s 27 and doesn’t give a crap. But I keep the collection going in the hopes that one day he’ll…. What am I saying? I’m stuck with this stuff forever.
If you could hire any historical figure to bring in to give a motivational speech to MoTech employees, who would it be and why?
Groucho Marx. I think we could all use a good laugh. And who wouldn’t want to be motivated by the man who said “The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.”
Do you have any creative talents you’d like to share?
I love to write short- and long-form fiction. I’m currently enrolled in the Masters in Creative Writing program through Lindenwood University. Hopefully it will help me write gooder.
If you could pick one superpower for work, what would it be and why? And what’s your superhero name?
I guess I would be Grammar Man. My superpower would be the ability to correct peoples’ grammar without insulting them. And battling the supervillain Oxford Comma to the death.
Who’s the most impressive celebrity you’ve met?
My band got to open for They Might Be Giants back in the ‘90s. We met John and John, but it was their bass player who was the coolest and shared their Oreos with us backstage.
What would it surprise your coworkers to know about you?
I played in a band for 12 years, have released several band and solo records on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon, and recently completed a 112,000-word novel I’m trying to get published.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is getting to work with highly talented, creative and professional people who collaborate toward a common goal. I’m just kidding. It’s getting to work from home.
What was your favorite toy as a child?
I like to collect old toys and games from my childhood. My favorite was the Mattel Strange Change Machine, where cubes of compressed plastic would heat up in a ‘Time Machine’ chamber and grow into monsters. It’s a highlight of my collection and my youth. I have the scars to prove it.
If you could have an alternate profession, what would it be and why?
Autumn baker, so my hands would always smell like pumpkin spice.
